Vitalik Buterin awarded an honorary doctorate for his outstanding achievements
The University of Basel has granted an honorary doctorate to the creator of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin. Now, the Faculty of Business and Economics of the oldest university of Switzerland awarded Dr. Buterin for his outstanding achievements in the crypto field, smart contracts, as well as the design of institutions. All this occurring at the Dies Academicus, which is an annual celebration of the founding of the University, on Friday, the 30th of November.
The honorary degree has been granted by Prof. Aleksander Berentsen, who is also the dean of the business faculty and professor of Economic Theory. He said that the blockchain innovations of Vitalik are game-changing. He stated that Vitalik blazed a trail for science, as well as industry to follow and work together.
The Basel University also noted the groundbreaking contribution of Vitalik to promoting the idea of decentralization and equal participation in the digital revolution. The faculty also emphasized that Vitalik has written his scientific papers without any degree of commitment to some university.
Vitalik criticized centralized exchanges
In one statement, Vitalik said that he is honored for receiving the honorary doctorate from the University of Basel, the oldest one in Switzerland. He also said that the country is a well-known one as of the innovative blockchain research.
In July this year, Vitalik has criticized centralized exchanges, stating that those institutions have to burn in hell. The creator of ETH also argued that the crypto community should confront the idea of the stupid Kind making power, and confirmed his strong positive stance toward decentralization.
In early November, he revealed some details about the upcoming upgrade to the ETH network. Named “Serenity,” the forthcoming ETG 2.0 is going to embrace a few ETH projects which were collected since 2014. Buterin also specified that the update will be soon.
The launch of ETH in 2015 and its trading volume
When he was only 19 years old, he published the article “Ethereum: A Next Generation Smart Contract & Decentralized Application Platform,” that turned out to be groundbreaking for the decentralization of software apps.
Ethereum was then launched in the summer of 2015, and it is now a significant cryptocurrency, and a public blockchain platform which features smart contracts and provides the basis for decentralized applications or DApps.
ETH has seen its all-time high of $1,400 in the middle of January, followed by a massive sell-off in 2018. Ethereum is trading at $112.72 ultimately, according to the Coin Market Capitalization.
