Two of the biggest blockchain consortiums in the industry made one crucial move to propel the adoption of blockchain technology in the enterprise sector and announced their formal collaboration.
EEA and Hyperledger are each other’s associate members
The two companies ,the EEA or Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, which is a consortium which sees over 300 members working to leverage open-source Ethereum technology for blockchain solutions in enterprise and Hyperledger, which is a cross-industry working group led by the open-source Linux Foundation, said in a press release that they are formally the organizations of each other as associate members.
They added in a joint statement that the collaboration between them is going to accelerate adoption of blockchain technologies for business, underlying some similar purposes with complementary approaches to scaling blockchain tech for industries.
As being members of each other’s communities, the leadership of the EEA and Hyperledger are going to have the means to collaborate all over Special Interest Groups and Working Groups and hundreds of thousands of developers in both communities.
The community members of EEA, who are working on specifications and standards, can actually turn to Hyperledger in order to collaborate on software implementations of those standards.
Hyperledger developers can participate in EEA Certification
The Enterprise Ethereum Alliance was launched earlier in last year, and it started as a 30-member group, rising to over 150 members which include the likes of a state government from India by mid-2017. By the end of the year, the EEA also became the biggest blockchain consortium in the world. In the joint statement, the EEA said that it sponsors the development of enterprise blockchain standards with a specific focus on those that are aligned with the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
Talking about the collaboration as a time of great opportunity for EEA, the executive director of it, named Ron Resnick, said that additionally, Hyperledger developers who join the EEA can participate in the EEA Certification, in order to ensure solution compliance for projects which are related to the Enterprise Ethereum Client Specification.
The project Hyperledger took shape in December 2015, being the biggest industry-focused open-source blockchain effort at that time. In July last year, the Linux Foundation-led consortium released Hyperledger Fabric, which was its first production-ready blockchain software for industries, which include the notable example of the biggest shopping company in the world, known as Maersk, deploying the Hyperledger Fabric to track shipments.
Executive director downplays the perceived rivalry between the two consortiums
The joint announcement also added that Hyperledger fosters the development of open sources software for establishing, managing, as well as connection enterprise blockchain networks.
The executive director of Hyperledger, named Brian Behlendorf, downplaying any perceived rivalry between the two of the largest enterprise blockchain consortiums, said that for anyone that ever put a ‘vs.’ between Ethereum and Hyperledger, this collaboration shows that it is now ‘Ethereum AND Hyperledger.’
He added that great open standards depend upon great open source code, so this is actually a natural alliance for both organizations. Standards, specifications, as well a certification are all going to help enterprise blockchain customers to commit to implementations with confidence since they have some better assurance of interoperability and multiple vendors of choice.
